The Golden Jet and The Golden Calf: Bobby Hull Cured Me of Celebrity Worship

I stood in line for hours at a car dealership in Arlington Heights, Illinois in 1962 to get this autograph from my hero. I now wonder if he was drunk or going to a KKK meeting later.

Bobby Hull died this week at 84. Besides being one of my childhood heroes, breaking hockey scoring records, inventing the curved stick, having a slap shot faster than Apollo 11, winning awards and a championship, he went on to break my heart by leaving my favorite team for a record salary, then confuse and disappoint me as a serial spouse abuser and reputed…
